Japan’s Kazuki Higa clinches the bti Open Title

Young golfer Kazuki Higa of Japan became the title winner of bti Open 2018 which concluded on 27th April, 2018 in the pristine Kurmitola Golf Club. This was his maiden professional victory with a three-shot win in the sixth edition of the international golf tournament which featured a prize purse of BDT 50 lacs.

This was Higa’s second season as a professional golfer in the tournament tri-sanctioned by Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association (BPGA), and Asian Development Tour (ADT) with bti being the title sponsor.

 Higa dominated the week with a final round score of two-under-71, which  boosted him to victory at 17-under-271.National golfer Md. Zamal Hossain Mollah secured the second place by returning a 70 at 14-under-274. There was a great contest between the two during the final round as Zamal was quick to play some powerful shots and came up with two birdies on the third and fourth, challenging Higa, who replied with a knockout punch with a chip in birdie on the 17th.

The young golfer from Okinawa, said “I had a shaky start but managed to recover with birdies on the 5th and 6th. But the turning point was the chip in birdie on the 17th, which practically sealed the victory for me.”

 Local hero Zamal Hossain, who is a two-time winner at KGC, also gave a brilliant performance which helped in jump to the 6th position from 22nd on the PGTI order of merit. He said, “I am quite satisfied with my performance as I feel my game is slowly returning to the way it was a few years back. My putting and driving were precise although I fumbled with my approach and wedge shots on the last day. I am nonetheless happy with my performance.”

The third position was tied by Malcolm Kokocinski of Sweden and Miguel Carballo of Argentina, and three other Bangladeshis finished within the top ten, among whom were Siddikur Rahman and Sajib Ali at 279 and Mohammad Nazim at 280.
