At just 16, and with World War I raging, he lied about his age and was accepted into the Seaforth Highlanders.Within two years, he was fighting in France at the Somme and his actions at the Battle of Cambrai earned him the UK’s highest military honour.Pinned down by enemy fire, Lance Corporal McBeath volunteered to fake bags attack the guns alone, armed with Lewis gun and revolver.
